The internet makes it easy to speak out and make a difference!

Americans for the Arts
This web-site gives you an easy, step-by-step way to contact your Congressional Representatives and Senators. Advocate for the Arts - The Americans for the Arts Action Center provides all the tools, tips and information you need to voice your support for more culture in our communities, more arts education in our schools, and more arts in our daily lives.

National Assembly of State Arts Agencies
This site contains more complete reading about strategies and techniques to build political support for the arts. Arts Advocacy Checklist for Arts Organizations and Advocates - NASAA also has several publications. Here’s a handy checklist for arts professionals to use in evaluating their organization’s advocacy efforts. (Remember, our very own Tennessee Arts Commission recognizes favorably those organizations that make arts advocacy a regular practice!)

To learn how to strengthen your relationships with legislative leaders, consult Access to Power: Building Political Clout for the Arts.*

For ideas on how to maximize contacts with your legislators and expand your advocacy clout, consult Forty Action Strategies.*

To see how you can broaden the reach of public arts funding by connecting the arts to a variety of public policy issues, consult The Arts in Public Policy: An Advocacy Agenda.*

For help with turning your board members into advocates, consult Advocacy for Public Support of the Arts: A Civic Responsibility.*

To learn how nonprofit arts organizations can lobby without risk to their tax status, consult Advocacy by Arts Organizations: Tax Laws and Lobbying.*

These and other advocacy resources developed by NASAA may be found on their Web site, http://www.nasaa-arts.org/publications/advo.shtml.
